President Mwinyi Happy With Zanzibar’s Electoral Commission’s Professional Handling of 2025 General Election In The Archipelago

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has expressed satisfaction with the patriotic and professional manner in which the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) managed the 2025 Zanzibar General Election, which was conducted peacefully and with stability.

President Dr. Mwinyi expressed his gratitude at the Zanzibar State House when he was handed over the Report of the Zanzibar General Election 2025 by the Chairman of ZEC, Hon. Judge George Joseph Kazi.

The Zanzibar Head of State underscored the need for the Government in the archipelago to continue working in sync with ZEC in addressing the numerous challenges that emerged during the election so that they are not repeated in future elections.

Also, the President hailed the Commission for the increase in the number of registered voters from 566,352 in 2020 to 717,557 in 2025, representing an increase of 26.7 percent, with the Government covering 100 percent of the election costs for the first time.

For his part, the Chairman of ZEC, Hon. Judge Kazi, said another achievement was the continued use of the Tactile Ballot Folder, which enables people with visual disabilities to vote without assistance, as well as the availability of a modern One-Stop Centre building and six District Election Office buildings.

Also, President Dr. Mwinyi thanked ZEC for the work done and urged its leaders and executives to continue carrying out their duties with integrity and professionalism, while the Government continues to cooperate with the Commission to strengthen the environment for future elections.
