TFS Turns Tree Planting Into A Lasting Legacy For Future Generations In Tanzania

The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has continued to practically demonstrate its commitment to strengthening Tanzania’s tree-planting drive after taking part in World Cleanup Day 2026.

During the key environmental initiative held in Kondoa District, Dodoma Region, TFS joined students, residents and other environmental stakeholders in planting a total of 500 trees at various locations, in an important exercise that went hand in hand with a special environmental clean-up campaign.

The tree varieties planted during the exercise included Syzygium cumini, Trichilia emetica and Psidium guajava.

The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Union and Environment), Mr Reuben Nhamanilo Kwagilwa, graced the event.

In his speech during the exercise, he urged citizens in the fast-growing district to embrace a culture of participating in environmental conservation campaigns, including the protection of water-source areas.

Moreover, Mr Kwagilwa reminded Kondoa residents to remain prepared and take the necessary precautions against the negative environmental impacts expected from the predicted El Niño rains.

Similarly, he used the opportunity to direct all councils across the country to establish tree-seedling nurseries to supplement the country’s target for tree planting.

TFS, through the Office of the District Forest Conservator in Kondoa, participated in the exercise in collaboration with the non-governmental organisation GO PLANT TANZANIA and students from Bicha Secondary School.

During the commemoration, students were educated on environmental management and conservation with the aim of increasing their awareness and encouraging them to participate in conservation activities within their communities.

For his part, the Kondoa District Forest Conservator, CO I Fred Steven James, expressed his gratitude to the Government, the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), leaders, GO PLANT TANZANIA, the management of Bicha Secondary School, students, residents and other stakeholders for participating in and contributing to the success of the commemorations.

James said the collaboration was important and should be sustained to increase community awareness and participation in environmental clean-up activities, tree planting and the conservation of forest resources for the benefit of both present and future generations.

The Deputy Minister commended TFS for its contribution to forest and environmental conservation, including the planting and distribution of tree seedlings to communities.

In recognition of this contribution, TFS was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for participating in World Cleanup Day 2026 and the “Dodoma Tunajitokeza” campaign, which aims to encourage communities to participate in environmental clean-up activities, tree planting and environmental conservation.

The commemorations were also attended by officials from the Office of the Regional Commissioner for Dodoma, the Office of the District Commissioner for Kondoa, the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), members of the media and other environmental stakeholders.
