Fishermen in Tanzania’s Mainland and Zanzibar are braced with a prestigious opportunity to expand the market scope for their valuable catches, both within and outside the country.
Realizing the importance of modern technology in boosting market linkages, the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) has hatched a special research programme on an online fishing market, targeting to link fishermen in Tanzania’s Mainland and Zanzibar with a vast network of traders within and outside the country.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of SUZA, Prof. Said Ali Hamad Vuai, said the varsity has decided to venture into a robust programme aimed at helping local fishers effectively penetrate regional and global markets.
“This programme also dedicates itself to educating fishermen on diverse issues related to market linkages and improving their products, particularly in terms of fish preservation, to meet the required international market standards,” he said.
The Don said the varsity was continuing to conduct a series of useful research initiatives aimed at improving the performance of numerous sectors, including agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals, livestock keeping, business, entrepreneurship, marketing and education.
Based on innovations, Prof Vuai noted that the university was working to create ample opportunities for youth to make brave use of the numerous technologies being developed to address different social challenges while also benefiting economically.
The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is the only public university in Zanzibar, Tanzania, established in 1999 and operational since 2001.
