PCCB Recovers Sh15.9 Million Over Irregularities In Water Source Project

THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Njombe Region has recovered Sh15.9 million allocated for the construction of a composting system at the Mbukwa River water source in Makete District.

The funds belonged to the Rufiji Basin Water Board, based in Iringa, and were earmarked for the project being implemented in Mlevela Village, Mbandu Ward.

Speaking to journalists while presenting the bureau’s performance report for the period between April and September 2026, Njombe Regional Deputy Chief PCCB Noel Mseo said the money was recovered after irregularities were discovered in the implementation of the project.

“Following the discovery of the irregularities, the suspect decided to refund the entire amount of Sh15.9 million, which belonged to the Rufiji Basin Water Board,” Mr Mseo said.

He said that following the recovery, PCCB had written to the board, requesting its director to take disciplinary action against the employee involved.

Mr Mseo also urged members of the public to continue reporting suspected corruption and the misuse of public funds to PCCB to enable appropriate action to be taken.

He said public cooperation was essential in ensuring that development projects were properly implemented and delivered the intended benefits to their beneficiaries.
