DODOMA: THE Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI)’s planned 2026 Marathon has so far attracted 1000 registered participants, with the Dodoma Regional Commissioner (RC), Rosemary Senyamule, calling for more members of the public to enrol.
The health- focused event, which will be graced by the country’s Agriculture Minister, Mr Daniel Chongolo, is scheduled to take place on August 2, 2026, from the famous Nane Nane Agricultural International Exhibition Grounds in Dodoma.
Briefing journalists on the preparations for the sporting event while meeting TARI officials to collect her running gear, RC Senyamule confirmed that at least 1000 people had already registered in readiness for the marathon.
Apart from hailing the state-owned agricultural research institute for organising the marathon, she commended its contribution to transforming the semi- arid region of Dodoma into a food producing hub.
” I feel very proud to have TARI headquarters located in Dodoma. Previously, the region was lagged behind in agriculture but through the Institute’s commendable efforts, Dodoma now stands among the country’s leading regions in agriculture production,” she observed.
The RC appealed to residents and agricultural enthusiasts from Dodoma and neighbouring regions to register for the upcoming Marathon.
“I have personally registered and will actively participate in the 10km category,” she insisted.
TARI has organised the Marathon as part of celebrations marking its 10th anniversary.
The event will be followed by a special gathering of agricultural pundits from all TARI centers across the country to retreat, exchanging ideas and set strategic agendas for the smooth metamorphosis of its general role to assist farmers in Tanzania.
Dr Thomas Bwana, the Director General of TARI, for his part, informed that all key preparations ahead of the colorful event had been accomplished.
He unveiled that the Institute has set aside at least 14m/- for the rolling out of awards to winners of the Marathon in the diverse categories.
The event will be staged under the theme of ‘Research For Food Security’.
“We’re running for agricultural research, we’re running for health and also running for the success of Tanzania’s farmers,” he expressed.
He said the event further aims to unite communities and agricultural stakeholders in promoting improved health, nutrition, and the adoption of modern technologies in the country’s agriculture sector.
“Through this Marathon, TARI eyes to further serve local small holder farmers, empower communities in marginalised areas, improve awareness of the effective use of modern agricultural technologies and measures to combat the effects of climate change,” he added.
The Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture established by Parliamentary Act No. 10 of 2016. It conducts, regulates, promotes, and coordinates agricultural research across public and private sectors in Tanzania.
