The Cereal and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA) is set to convene key stakeholders in Tanzania’s avocado value chain at the 3rd National Avocado Forum 2026, scheduled for October 6, 2026, in Dodoma Capital City.
The forum will bring together avocado farmers, potential buyers, processors, as well as regional commissioners from avocado-producing regions across the country.
To be graced by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Daniel Chongolo, the timely forum in the heart of Tanzania highlights a series of efforts being engineered by COPRA with an eye to boosting production and productivity, as well as value addition and markets for avocado in Tanzania.

Briefing Zanzibar News on the development, the Director General (DG) of COPRA, Ms Irene Madeje Mlola, said the meeting aims to bring together key avocado players from the private and public sectors under one platform to deliberate on viable mechanisms for transforming the economic sector.
“The forum is expected to create a meaningful podium for its participants to delve into ways to further strengthen the sector, based on available opportunities, challenges, as well as the role of government and the private sector in the sector’s bright future,” she said.
Moreover, she said the meeting will focus on in-depth discussions on the interventions needed to help boost the market for Tanzanian avocados.
“The Tanzanian avocado sector continues to register impressive growth, and thus, we are envisioning using the forum to put in place further strategies to heighten the performance of the sector,” she insisted.
The DG called on relevant stakeholders to turn out in large numbers and attend the crucial forum for the best results for the sector.
Operating under the zeal of “Commercialization of the Tanzania’s Food Systems to Catalyze Growth and Resilience,” the state-owned semi-autonomous body responsible for regulating the production, processing and marketing of cereals and other produce in Tanzania (COPRA) has been at the forefront of pushing strategies and an array of interventions aimed at advancing the avocado sector in Tanzania since its inception.

By 2024, Tanzania’s avocado sector had made remarkable strides, with exports reaching approximately 36,520 tonnes and generating around USD 79 million.
Tanzania is rapidly emerging as a major avocado producer, with annual output exceeding 200,000 tonnes. Key producing regions include Njombe, Mbeya and Kilimanjaro, where favourable high-altitude climates and fertile soils support optimal growth.
The sector continues to expand, with exports primarily directed to Europe, India and the Middle East. The Hass and Fuerte varieties dominate the market.
The Southern Highlands regions of Njombe, Mbeya, Iringa and Songwe, along with Kilimanjaro, remain Tanzania’s leading avocado producers, leveraging their advantageous environmental conditions to drive the sector’s future growth.
