Dodoma Mulls Special Economic Study to Boost Contribution to Tanzania’s US$1 Trillion Economy
“The early signs are promising.” With just a month having passed since Tanzania officially embarked on implementing the country’s eagerly -awaited National Development Vision 2050, officials in various regions have demonstrated high morale and commitment to ensuring that the vital national Dira sees the light of day.
The vision, launched on 17 July 2025 by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and which came into effect on 1st July 2026, targets to transform Tanzania’s economy into a US$1 trillion economy by 2050 as its ultimate goal.
In Dodoma Region, authorities have convened to brainstorm on the ways needed to enable the region, mapped at the heart of Tanzania, to make a significant contribution towards the determined US$1 trillion economy.
Endowed with diverse economic opportunities and resources, most of which remain untapped, officials in Dodoma remain optimistic that effective exploitation and utilization of these precious resources will place the region in the driver’s seat in making lucrative contributions to Dira 2050.
Speaking when gracing the launch of the Dodoma Regional Business Council 2026, the Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, directed the conduction of a special economic study to assess how the region can maximise its economic potential.
She cited tourism as one of the emerging sectors with significant potential to boost the region’s economy and revenue, while agriculture, particularly urban farming, and industrial development would continue to play an important role in strengthening the region’s economic base.

In a fresh strategy to stimulate the economy in Dodoma, she instructed the establishment of a special investment journal dedicated to showcasing and marketing the numerous investment opportunities the region has to offer, with an eye to attracting more investors into the region.
“It is high time we changed our mindset, particularly among those working in the public sector, in order to create a fresher, investor-friendly environment that allows for smooth and effective public-private partnerships capable of stimulating the region’s economic growth,” she said.
The private sector is expected to play a crucial role, contributing up to 70 per cent to the implementation of Tanzania Development Vision 2050. From this fact, Ms Senyamule underscored the importance of the Regional Business Council in ensuring that the private sector is given a prominent role in driving Dodoma’s economic transformation.
The RC also hailed President Samia Suluhu Hassan for continuing to create and expand economic opportunities in Dodoma, urging stakeholders to effectively utilise the support and opportunities being created by the government.
She further revealed that Dodoma had continued to record a stable trend in annual economic growth, but said more inclusive strategies and concerted efforts were needed to accelerate the pace of development.
For instance, she said the region’s per capita income stood at more than 1.7 million shillings in 2022, before rising to more than 2.1 million shillings in 2025, according to research conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
According to her, the trend demonstrated the region’s growing economic potential and the need for stakeholders to adopt innovative strategies capable of transforming that potential into greater investment, employment, productivity and government revenue.
